Philly to CT, avoiding NYC

In a few weeks we will be in Philadelphia headed to CT (then eventually to Maine):

(NOTE: This is simply was google suggests. I do not plan to zip thru NYC like this. See below in this thread.)

I have never driven in this part of the country, much less with a 30' trailer. What's the best way to avoid NYC headaches?

We'd be making that leg of the trip on a Sunday in case it matters.

  • I-95 to I-287 and around back to I-95 should be perfectly doable and not too unpleasant. Anything much better would seem to require going rather far out of your way.

    Do not take any of the parkways in Connecticut, even though the Merritt in particular may look inviting on the map. They are restricted to small vehicles only, with good reason. Your RV would not fit through some of the underpasses (besides being excluded by law).
