Place to pull off and sleep in the Spokane, WA area

To close this thread out, at least as far the info for our trip goes, our drive took us well into the evening on the way through. We pulled into Spokane well after 10 pm. I did give Riverside State Park campground a drive through, but it was pretty full and my wife and I were not feeling comfortable with searching for an unoccupied spot and setting up in the dark. So we went back to Cabelas and that worked great. While she was at first skeptical on parking lot camping, she said afterwards that it was very convenient and worked out great. We planned on Cabelas for the return trip and it was again very convenient. That morning we headed in the store and spent gobs of money, just like they hoped we would!

Yes, the FS Campground near St Regis I was referring to is Cabin City. Nice place.

We spent an over night in July at the Riverside State Park. You probably would rather stay closer to the interstate, but we enjoyed the visit. We were towing a 34' fifth-wheel. If you should decide to stay here, be sure to get good directions. It is definitely "off the beaten path."

Cabin City?

Looks like there are several FS campgrounds in the ST Regis/Superior area close to I90

Cabela's in Post Falls!!!
Fish Trap rest area about 30(?) miles west of Spokane.
The Petro is a couple miles west of Spokane just off the freeway.
All are pretty good bets for a nap.

Also, just for info, there are good parking areas on I-84 Exit 109 John Day Dam. They're off the road, most are paved, and fairly quiet.
HOWEVER, ALL WILL BE HOT THIS WEEKEND.

If you're just looking for a safe, yet easy access from the hwy, spot I'd suggest Lincoln's Silver Dollar. I have stopped there numerous times for a break, food and/or fuel. I've walked through the free camp area and it seems exactly like what you're looking for. If you arrive early enough, I'd also recommend the forest service campground a couple miles north of the I-90 on Camel's Hump Rd a handful of miles west of St Regis. Nice spot with water available and pit toilets.

The resort is about one mile further down the road. This is just a BLM parking area a short distance north on Jack Brown Road. Use Google terrain and search north of the Resort up Jack Brown Road. Near the barn you will see a parking area. That's it. (47.367648,-117.830021) While it seems like a long way, it is less than 10 minutes from the freeway exit. It is managed by the BLM so you can always call them for details. I found it last year, with the help of Ultimate Campgrounds which may also help you find other possible locations.

We have used the Fish Trap BLM area, just a few miles SW of Spokane. Quite, free, wildlife, some nice hiking trails, and an old homestead to explore.
