Places to Stay/Location w/ RV visiting Yosemite and Sequoia

-We are taking our family of 5 out to both Yosemite and see the Sequoia's for about a total of 3 to 4 days. We are heading out in our 32' class C and wondering about a good place to stay in California that would be best for getting the best of both parks. A couple things we need/are looking for:
  • Car Rentals nearby (I assume to get us between both places
  • RV park w/ a swimming pool
  • RV Park w/ laundry services
  • RV park that would allow a campfire in our lot
  • Preferred to use a Good Sam Discount

Just looking for some ideas or experiences that some may have had that could help make the most of our time out near these two amazing parks. We would be game for any fun ideas or activities that are must sees or things to get to while there during our time. Thanks for any suggestions or help. :)

  • Stay in Three Rivers, California, to visit Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. We like Kaweah RV Resort but there are two are three others in the little town. Three Rivers may have car rentals and you can definitely rent a car in Visalia. We stay at the KOA in Mariposa to visit Yosemite. A shuttle stops at the entrance to this campground. Spend two or three days at Sequoia/Kings Canyon then move to Yosemite for four or five days.
  • As I recall, you will need to drive thru a lot of the park to get to the Gen Sherman tree, and then walk some distance. The park is full of winding, slow, skinny roads. I remember paying close attention to driving because of the drop offs. You may be able to find a park site that will indicate driving times from the entrance.
  • Thanks everyone for the info. above. First time in the forum and this is a really great asset for a young RVer. Looking forward to more info. if anyone wants to share. Has anyone stayed at the the Yosemite RV Resort? It seems location wise that could be a great place for catching rides (YARTS) and car rentals. That is in Coarsegold and it looks like it has good reviews? Info. is helping us think about doing both parks in a short window. If wanting to get a picture just by General Sherman how long would that take if we are just heading out with the RV on our way back? Thanks for the help everyone. :)...

BTW.. love the GoPackGo username.. grew up in the U.P. as a big packer fan and still am! Go PACK!
  • If you stay in Coursgold/Oakhurst area, go see the Sequioas at Nelder Grove. Much better than in the park, no crowds.
  • Not sure you can do both those parks in 3-4 days. I would choose Yosemite. There are Sequoias in Yosemite but there is no Yosemite Valley in Sequoia National Park. Please don't misunderstand. I really like them both. But IMHO it's very difficult to spend quality time in either of these parks if you are spending all your time driving between them and you have a short schedule.

In Yosemite, as you are about to descend towards the Valley, make sure to pull into the parking lot FOR THE VIEW just after you go through the tunnel. Trust me on this one.

I stayed in a great Escapees Park right near Coarsegold. Park Sierrra rates are $21/night for 30 amp. I remember it as being 15 miles from the Yosemite entrance. But you will need to join Escapees (Escapees.com). Call the park directly to make a reservation.

There is no pool at this park. But you could rent a car in Fresno to get to the parks, or to a YARTS pickup point (such as Coarsegold).

The traffic in Yosemite is pretty bad in summer. Go early, park (if not using YARTS), and ride their shuttles. Get a good park map and also one that shows all the shuttle stops. Wear good walking shoes.

My son and his girlfriend took a 1/2 day horse ride out of Yosemite Valley and said it was great. Reservations would be a good idea in summer.
  • First, Welcome to the Forum.

Not to be rude, but have you looked at a map. IMO, it would not be practical to visit both Parks from one location.
You could possible stay in the Fresno, CA area, rent a car for Sequoia.
I would chose to stay in the Corsegold, CA area or maybe Mariposa, CA and take the YARTS into Yosemite Valley. Then use the shuttle system to explore Yosemite.
