If I was starting in Wood Village, I'd head in on 84 straight through Portland and out the Sunset Highway (26) to Hwy 6 to Tillamook, then south on 101. (This assuming you're not traveling through Portland during rush hour)
It's thirty miles farther but you get to stop at the cheese factory!
How do you get from hwy 84 to Hwy 26?????????? Other than dropping down I5 to catch it south of Portland.
I-84 becomes the Banfield freeway when it hits Portland. It ends where it intersects I-5, upon which one must go south. A few miles down the road, I-5 crosses the Willamette River via the Marquam Bridge. One must stay in the right lanes...follow signs for "I-405"- that route leads to an exit a few miles on for Hwy 26- "The Sunset Highway", at least as it used to be labeled when I lived there! - amandasgrammaExplorer

- amandasgrammaExplorerIf you're going to be in Wood Village, take 205 up into Washington, turn to get to Kelso/Longview. From Longview, go over the bridge (the Columbia River) and take 30 to Astoria. Then Astoria down. MUCH more scenic than any of those other drives.
