One other thought considering where you live and where your looking at going, be prepared for changes in plans due to elevation. Have the kids had any ear issues, have they experienced higher elevations? Some young ones struggle with it the first few times they are exposed to it.
last summer I had the 4 year old on my back hiking up to darn near sky pond in RMNP. The one year old stayed back that day but we had him at nearly 11,000 the day before.I would throw plenty of KOA/Jellystone stops in. My 5 year old can occupy herself well but the 1 year old needs to run from time to time.
