Prepare Yourself For 16% Tax Added Onto Food And Medicine

The PRI got their way, and IVA the 16% National Sales Tax has been added to FOOD and MEDICINE. I have already noticed some price increases in other industries (mostly tourist oriented).

  • It is my understanding that this bill will not pass until November 15 if at all. It's not over yet. I guess if you live on beans ,rice and milk the bill will have no effect. G-d forbid you might want to eat meat! When Canada brought in a similar VAT tax all those with incomes below a certain level received continuing subsidy checks. That is fair!

  • old guy: You must be kidding!
Taxing medicine in a country with a large population that live far beneath any poverty line is sinful.

  • does this mean they can take care of their poor people now?
  • Most states that I've been in tax prepaired food and restraunt meals. Groceries in NV, WA, and I believe CA are not taxed.
  • The new tax doesn't affect basic food stuffs included in the canasta basica.

If 50% of the population pays no taxes, someone has to make up the difference. Mexico isn't the only country with a tax on foods. Many U.S. states have a sales tax on food items.
