Pulling 30 foot TT from Rawlins WY to Colter Bay RV Park

Coming back to MI from Coulter Bay we took 287. There was some construction (2011) near Dubois, but that should be done now. We had gone up to Jackson, WY via Rock Springs after coming from UT. I can't imagine that it's a shorter or better ride than 287.

Yes, we were affected by the tornado...just months earlier we installed an underground storm shelter (made in southern IL) (NOTE: NOTE A FALLOUT SHELTER!) It came in super handy. Some damange to home, but felt "safe" in the underground eggshell we were in. I put safe in quotes as the noise, uncertainty of it all made my girls panic a bit but now they love the fact they know we will be safe.

So many friends / family lost everything....but the fact overwhelming majority were in church while houses blew away says something.

Wife and I grew up in East Peoria. Nice to hear from someone near our former home. Hope you were spared by the monster tornado of a couple of years ago.

We took Route 191 from Colter Bay to Rock Springs last summer on our way to Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. It was a very well maintained road, no extreme climbs, available gas, and quite scenic on the northern quarter of the trip. The rest was mainly farm/ranch land.

When in Colter Bay, I highly recommend the Breakfast Cruise on Jackson Lake. Also, Flaming Gorge is a little known, but beautifully scenic area. Especially from the Canyon Rim Campground on the south side of the Gorge.

Just another quick vote for US 287 over Togwotee Pass.

Agree. Plus off the Togwotee Pass is Falls CG - super nice FS CG with electric in one loop. We've stayed there a couple of times and once drove all the way from our home near Boise just to stay there.

287 is our favorite way to get to the Tetons. Sink Canyon SP in Lander is worth a stop plus a inexpensive city CG.

We took 287 last year. Very good road. Got gas at Lander and Dubois. I am over cautious. The pass between Dubois and Moran very scenic. Pulling a 34 ft. 5th wheel I think it's the easiest climb into Yellowstone. Others may not agree. I haven't used 191 in many years. Curious how others feel.
