Thanks Rocmoc, your graphic raised a question for me as well as our local tour board in PeƱasco. I just did an overland trip to Alamos and never encountered a checkpoint for TIP. I must say though that my first night was in Bacochibampo bay in Guaymas and then we went through Guaymas the city on the free road to Navajoa. The newly installed Garita (Aduana office) is outside of Guaymas on the bypass toll road. That is the only inspection point other than fruits veggies and the tax office once in a while that pops up. For sure you cannot cross the Sinaloa border without a TIP. Once I have clarification on this I will report back. I have sent an email to COFETUR for an official response to a very good question. I strongly believe it is the free zone, and if not, it should be, there is only one way in and one way out of Alamos. The city is worth getting the TIP for if it turns out that it is needed. We spent 3 nights there and our group was astounded that such a jewel exist this far North in Mexico!
