Question about Rocky Point ( Puerto Penasco )

Is the town crowded with young people on spring break? We are thinking about visiting for a couple of days, but not if there are crowds.
Thanks for any info, also hotel/motel accommodations.
  • Thanks for the replies. Looks like we will visit R P next fall as we are leaving for home middle of April.
  • Everything is quiet until Thursday of Semana Santa then it is crazy crazy. So I guess if you come in Wednesday it will be fine. Lately we have been Southbound waits of up to 2 hours at Lukeville on Fridays and Saturdays, sometimes its the USA southbound kind of a joke inspection but it also is Mexico inspecting the kids pretty thoroughly before crossing into Mexico. Came home yesterday through the POE at 2:00 afternoon and it was 15 - 20 minutes southbound wait.
  • Thanks to a new puppy, we won't be crossing at Sonoyta until next Wednesday.

Any thoughts on mid-week crossing during Semana Santa??? We could always stay with Edgar and Ana and get there earlier than if we leave from San Carlos, as planned. Thanks!!
  • We were in Rocky Point a few years back during Spring Break. The problem was the return back across the border. Traffic was backed up nearly two miles and took nearly two hours to cross. Timing is everything, pick early morning before the young ones wake or wait till they leave. Only problem we ran into.

  • Most of the breakers stay in the cheap hotels around the malacon. The Playa Bonita hotel is usually free of breakers. Last year there was no problem with the kids, actually we enjoyed it. They were not rowdy and things calmed down about midnight
  • The kids will be in every resort, bar and restaurant. I would never go there during SB.

  • crowded with spring break kids on Monday.
    Did not use hotel.
As I am older I tend to be at places spring breakers are not, so they did not bother me.
    Enjoyed my day.
One thing nice about the kids. The hawkers are so busy with the kids they left us alone
