Rain in Sonora

Just heard from a friend who lives in Old Kino. They have had a lot of rain and Old Kino is under water in the low areas. Really bad. Some are living in the schools. We were in Kino a few years ago when they had a similar flood. It is really bad as Old Kino has areas that are below sea level. You can imagine what happens when the septic tanks fill and overflow! The road to Hermosillo was damaged but apparently it is being repaired very quickly. Our house is high up so we are OK. Won't have a first hand report for a month or so.

  • Yes lots of rain here. In Kino Viejo yesterday they had the huge tankers sucking up water at intersection. We couldn't drive some streets but I believe the main streets are now ok. Huge hole in tMar de Cortez at the east end Oceanside. They were working on it yesterday but I haven't bee there today. Maybe more news later.
  • Moisheh, you know we are not that far away and it has rained & rained. We had nearly 3 inches of rain Monday. It had already rained Sunday so the ground was already saturated. Also rained again last night. For the first time water flood into the RV garage and that has never happened in 15 years. This monsoon season has felt more like we are in Florida than in the desert of the Southwest. Weather forecast is for the rain to continue thu spring '16.

  • A tropical depression moved through Sonora from the gulf of California, NOAA Hurricane Center www.nhc.noaa.gov/ will report and track these depressions as they can become hurricanes in the Pacific coast of Mexico and the Gulf of California, we have had some good soakers in Mexico City in the last weeks, I hope that every one is safe.
