- LizBeeExplorerKeep in mind that 288 in the morning, unlike VTLee's experience, can be gridlock, same in the PM. My secretary, who lives in Powhatan, takes 288 to Richmnod for work and gets stuck just about every morning.
- amxpressExplorerThanks. Taking US29 N out of Greensboro never occurred to me. Think we’ll plan our route back home that way. On the way there we’ll take the 288 bypass around Richmond.
- VTLeeExplorerDid the 288 bypass to I-64 two weeks ago. No problems when we did it around 8:30 a.m. on Friday. Like the previous poster said, use exit 62 on I-95.
- LizBeeExplorerI have to agree with above. Traffic through Richmond can be awful, and though 29 IS hilly, with frequent speed changes and lots of traps, it is hardly ever busy. It is a lovely drive

As above take the by-pass or leave Raleigh going west to Greensboro and take 29 North, 29 is a four lane straight shot to C'ville.
This was my first thought too. Not interstate but very nice route with a little better scenery though a tad bit hilly though not bad. And it's 100x better than fighting I95. - wanderingaimlesExplorerAs above take the by-pass or leave Raleigh going west to Greensboro and take 29 North, 29 is a four lane straight shot to C'ville.
- pinesmanExplorerWhere do you plan to stay? Time wise, it is not bad but distance wise, there are better route options.
- dmck413ExplorerTake 288 and bypass the Richmond downtown. I think it is exit 62 but not well marked.
