Rapid City Area RV Parks

Hi All,

Anyone have a recommendation for an RV park in the Rapid City, SD area? We would like to hit Mt. Rushmore, Deadwood, Sturgis and the Badlands so really anything in those areas would be great. We will be towing our Traverse and day tripping from the moho so I figure everything is within a couple hours of Rapid City...but always open to suggestions for other areas, as well.

Thanks in advance!

Your itinerary of Mt Rushmore to Deadwood to the Badlands would make Hill City a fairly centrally located stop for your day trips.

As mentioned the Rafter J Bar is good as well as others in the area.

One thought is, depending on how long you are in the area, to make two or three stops. One in the north Spearfish to see, Deadwood, Spearfish Canyon and area, Sturgis, Fort Meade. Two in the south, Custer area to see MT Rushmore, Custer State Park and the Mammoth Site in Hot Springs. Three a stop at Wall to see the badlands and wall drug.

    Just my 2ยข

  • I stayed at Southern Hills in Hermosa, right out of Rapid City. A couple of years ago it was Passport America. Nothing extra fancy, but clean and pull-throughs. Nice location for day tripping.
  • Rafter J in Hill City. It was a former stagecoach stop over 100 years ago. It's an incredible park -- wide, open RV spaces, some in the trees, some by the pool, it's an incredible park. Minutes from Rushmore, and everything you need/want.

It books fast. It's private. And, if you look it up, you'll see how incredible it is. One of the top RV parks in the country. Been there 3 times and can't wait to go again in a few years.
  • Three years ago, we stayed at Rapid City South RV Park. It served our purposes. We had our car in tow and traveled from the RV park daily, to surrounding attractions for two weeks. Very convienient location and reasonable. Felt safe and comfortable.
  • We have stayed at Custer State Park at the Gamelodge Campground several times and enjoyed it very much but it can be difficult to get reservations. It has 50 amp electric only with water and dump station available near the sites. If you want full hookup, Elkhorn Ridge near Spearfish is a very nice option.
  • Been to Custer 2 different times, stayed at Big Pine Campground for a week and Fort Welikeit for a week.Highly recommend both
