- joloooteExplorerThanks Gyps...
- 2gypsies1Explorer IIIGood to know 4runner. I wasn't sure of pavement from Aneth to Hovenweep. The park's website directions doesn't really mention taking 10 at Aneth.
- joloooteExplorer4runner, thank you VERY much 4 the great info.:B
- 4runnerguyExplorerCounty Road 10 from Pleasant View to the UT boarder where it becomes Hovenweep Road/CR 212 is paved. It's been some years since it's been paved, but it's NOT a dirt road. It isn't particularly wide, but you won't meet much traffic either. There are several outliers (Hackberry, Horseshoe, Holly, etc.) from the main Hovenweep site in UT along CR 10. These are along dirt roads that, while easily accessible in a high clearance vehicle, I wouldn't recommend for your RV.
Another route to get there is to go from Cortez at the junction of US 481 and US 160:
Head south on US 160 to CR G about 2.5 miles south. Head west on CR G. This is a pleasant little paved road up McElmo Canyon through ranch land. There's an interesting little hike about 15 miles from the intersection up Sand Canyon. Lots of ruins along the trail Sand Canyon info. This trail is also open to mountain bikes if you're into that sort of thing. Continuing on toward Hovenweep: at the border, it becomes CR 402. Turn right about 3.5 miles past the border onto CR 401, then another right turn onto CR 413 in another 4.5 miles. This will take you to Hovenweep. All of these roads are paved. There are signs for Hovenweep at all of this junctures.
BTW, taking CR 10 to CR 212 to Hovenweep and then continuing to Aneth on CR 413 to 401 to 402 is also paved the whole way.
As for the CG, no electricity. Smaller sites, but with the short size of your rig, you should fit. Will be pretty warm in the day time, but as you know, the desert cools off nicely at night. Not many camping options in the general area anyway. We day trip from the Cortez area when we go.

road descriptions - 2gypsies1Explorer IIIWell, definitely don't avoid Hovensweep. There is a main entrance to the park off 491 (see the link above that I provided for a map of the park) and it's a good paved road. Click on the 'Directions' and you'll have the good way to get to this park. Just don't try to enter from C10.
Hovensweep is well worth visiting if you're in the area. - joloooteExplorerhmmm...guess I won't take this route. G'bye Hovensweep.
- joloooteExplorer"Just like the Devil" WOW
- 2gypsies1Explorer IIII believe it's C10 and if you look at the above-mentioned Hovenweep's site it gives Pleasant View directions into the park and states all outlying roads of the park are dirt and not advised in bad weather. That might be the continuation of C10 into Aneth.
By the way, Aneth means 'just like the devil' in Navajo. I don't think I'd take the road. :) - 2lazy4UExplorerGoogle Maps calls it 10 in Colorado and maybe 413 in UT. Kind of hard to tell what's what. I don't know if you've been in that area, but I lived in Dolores for some time and did a lot of exploring. It's gentle rolling hills, dryland farm country, but with steep and often very deep canyons. I personally wouldn't try that road with a long rig until I'd called Hovenweep and/or the county road dept. and heard what they say.
This blog will give you an idea of a lot of the roads in that country:

I haven't been to Hovenweep for ages, but I remember it as being narrow and washboard and not something I'd want to take a big rig on, but they may have improved it since then. You might also be able to get an idea from Google Earth, but I'd just call the folks at Hovenweep or the county road dept.
Be prepared to deal with the heat - it's hot there that time of year. - joloooteExplorerI'm sorry. Apparently my description was confusing. I'm not concerned of Rt.491. I'm asking about the secondary road between Aneth, Utah & Pleasent View, Colorado. My map doesn't give it a number.
