Thanks for all the responses. Of you course none of you know me from Adam but I am a very well trained, VERY responsible US citizen and firearm user. I would never shoot an animal unless it was absolutely the last resort. In truth, I am less concerned about animals (because they are mostly predictable), and more concerned about the moral decline of people in general, human life is just not cherished as it should be, therefore bad people will hurt good people without a moments hesitation.
I know the likelihood of an encounter with a thief/person intent on harming me or my family is VERY slim. But that doesn't mean it could never happen. The instances of such things are growing in number...even worse when good law abiding citizens are told they can't have a gun to protect themselves.(of course a bad person would rather not have to worry about his victims being able to defend themselves)
I will probably just leave all guns behind and enjoy Alaska for the beautiful rugged country that it is. We will take our truck and go as far off the beaten path as possible for tourists with limited time:)
