So much of the answer depends on what you want to do. If fishing is high on your list you need to research seasons and run timing. If general sightseeing research the weather where you want to go but be advised that in general mid July thru August is the rainy season for most of AK. This means low clouds with reduced visibility and cooler temps. Also you're more likely to get smoke from forest fires from around mid June to the start of wetter weather. Mid May thru mid July is usually the warmest but mosquitoes can be bad then also. Here in Fairbanks we usually get our first frost by around the 20th of August and colors peak by around the 10th to mid September. Having said all that yearly variations can be large.
