Ready To Go

Received our Milepost 2015 today. Have our 2/1 coupon book... Truck being tuned-up today. RV getting bearings repacked on Monday. We are almost ready to get on the road. Just have to wait until May. I'm beginning to get on her nerves about going but after 47 years she knows how I am. Not sure yet why I need to wait until May but I will. Drive safe and hope to see ya up there on the road..

  • Hope this works. Picture of our Roll Call 2015 sign in window. Looks better in real time.

  • We too are into the list making, prepping equipment, making final plans, etc. Have our reservations made for the Alaska Ferry to leave July 2nd from Prince Rupert. Will Island Hop to Ketchikan, Petersburg, Sitka, Juneau, Haines and Skagway before spending 6 wks t0 2 months in Alaska itself. We are waiting a bit later to leave so that we have a good chance of going across the "Going to the Sun" highway in Glacier, on our way North.

Have reservations made for a Glacier Watching tour into Tracy Arm--and campground reservations made for the Island Hopping portion of our trip. Otherwise we plan to play it really loose.

This is our 2nd trip up North--first was in 2002. Will spend another month or two on the West coast and across the SW as we head home.

To add to the excitement about our upcoming trip---I have just "7 more Mondays" in the classroom! Then retirement time--can hardly wait.

Hope to see several of you along the way. We will have a sign on the back of our Jayco Travel Trailer---Missouri Bird.
  • As long as you don't make a wild dash to get to AK leaving TX in forst week of
May should be just fine. The Alaska highway is paved the whole way, except where repairs are being done so it is as easy as any other road. Watch for the frost heaves. Most are marked. Time it so that the Dawson ferry is running. Usually by Mid May the river is ice free, & the ferry has been launched.

Going a little early beats the wave of travelers behind. It also beats some of the mosquitos.
  • This is what I enjoy about this forum. Just about everyone is friendly and try to be helpful. Not sure if anyone can tell, but this "is" our first time to make this trip. I really don't know how many years I've thought about it and wanted to go. But back in them older days I had this problem, called work. Found the cure couple of years ago and now that we are both cured, started planning this trip. If we could swing it, would depart tomorrow morning. Will be looking for all that have a sign on the back as you pass us as we will be moving slow. Taking all the advise of seeing as much as we can. Drive safe, honk as you go by or stop in for coffee if you see us.

  • Pick up the Church's campground directory as it will be helpful when using your GPS. They list the lat/long since many of the campgrounds have no actual street address. Your GPS may have occasions when it does not work properly. Most of all, enjoy and relax! We did very little planning and had no issues at all. We loved it so much that we plan to return in 2017.
  • Hello Chopper Hopper,
We are the Jones's, over here at New Boston Tx. We are leaveing for Alaska in late May. I saw you were listed in the Class of 2015 list. Be sure to put a Class of 2015 sign on the rear of your RV with your name on it so we can greet you!!
    Safe travels!!

Mozzy your way up to Puget Sound, we are in full bloom.
    Mildest winter on record.
  • Our D-day is may 30... Fiver to get the once over this weekend
New 3500 in the driveway raring to go
Starting go over our planned route weather dependent of course
Making lists of things no matter how small just to make sure
    Can't wait...
  • Took our long awaited trip to Alaska last year leaving Fort Worth on May 30. Three months on the road unbelievable sights in Alaska and Canada. Milepost is the book to have, refer to it often. Lastly, believe everything you read about the Alcan highway and hope for the best. Do-able but a real nasty road especially if it is raining.
  • We did it 2010 and left Iowa in mid May. Was a fantastic trip no road problems and hardly no traffic yet. Take your time the scenery and wildlife is unbelievable.
