Ready to roll Alberta

Left rock Creek this morning and sitting in my old stomping grounds in Kelowna. I cant believe how much it's changed in 30 years.

Spent a couple nights at a friends in the mountains who lives off grid in Rock Creek.

Vernon and onto arrow lake tomorrow, thinking nakusp for the night.

Good tips...thinking I'm going to buy one of those plastic canoe boat things in invermeer and give it away when we leave the area...so many little places to go...raining on and off so ,I got as well go get wet in a boat.

The lovely walk around back and down the front of Old Fort hill 5 minutes from Jasper town takes an hour, about the same time DWs take to look in the souvenir shops.

Kids of all ages love wading in Talbut Lake sand dunes about 20 minutes east of Jasper town. Nice for kayaks and canoes, too. Going east, when you are beside the very big Jasper Lake on the north side, watch for the smaller Talbot Lake on the right and turn into the paved parking. Great view of Roche Miette in the distance. It is possible to walk (scramble near the top) of Roche Miette but it takes a full day. Wonderful view all the way!

Lol sorry, Sulphur mt. We are in Radium today, much more our "speed". We took hwy 1a out of Banff, nice drive. We stopped at. Johnson Canyon and hiked up to the lower falls.

On your way to Takakkaw Falls, be sure to stop at the highway overlook for the Spiral Tunnels of the Canadian Pacific Railroad. The signs tell you about the railroad history of Kicking Horse Pass and you can watch a couple of trains circle through the tunnels. You can spend as much or as little time as you want and it's fascinating, even for kids!

We also enjoyed our hike up to Johnston Canyon falls, although they don't start to compare to Takakkaw Falls.

Almost forgot: don't miss Maligne Canyon while on your way to Maligne Lake. It is a narrow, slot canyon carved into limestone bedrock with many waterfalls along its relatively short length. You won't see anything else like it on your trip.
