REAL Big Rig Friendly Parks in N. Brunswick and N. Scotia

We are headed into New Brunswick and then Nova Scotia. We are traveling with "newbies" in their new to them 43+ foot coach towing a large Jeep. We are looking for parks that are REALLY big rig friendly (parking / turning) etc. Would appreciate any recommendations. Will be coming in via Calais then working our way to Cape Breton area , Bay of Fundy area and other undetermined as yet areas. Thanks for any input.

  • Try Kiwanis Oceanfront Camping in St. Andrews. The sites are a little tight but not bad. If you ask for ocean front the sites are drive-in, back-out so your big front windows have an unrestricted view of the Bay of Fundy. Lots of room to deal with the toad in the parking area near the office.

If you are in the Fredericton area Hartt Island Camping Resort is set up for big rigs. Long pull through sites, level and fully serviced. This is on the banks of the Saint John River.

In the Halifax NS area try Shubie Park. It is a municipal campground. They have a few big rig pull through sites so be sure to reserve in advance and specify what you want. Only downside is no sewer service on sites so you have to dump on the way out.
  • Howdy!

We're 65' (MDT, 5er, & Idaho Tote) a couple of the places we stayed at last year:
    * Ponderosa Pines Campground, Hopewell Cape, NB.
Campground is right on the fundy bay and close to Hopewell rocks.
    * Five Island Ocean Resort, Lower Five island, NS sites right on the Bay of Fundy.

We spent three and half months in Newfoundland so much more information on that if wanted.

  • Point of View at Louisburg
Louisburg is very educational. Very realistic roll playing inhabitants.

    Arm of Gold North Sydney
Jumping off place for the Newfoundland ferry. Mine tour extremely interesting. Be able to bend for long periods.

Bras D’Or Lakes Campground (8885 Hwy 105, Baddeck, Nova Scotia BOE 180, 902-295-2329, GS) Wifi

Red Barn Restaurant, St Michael’s Parrish (nightly Ceilidh), Iona, Bird Island (Englishtown), Sydney, Rollie’s Wharf (fiddle music on Thursday, North Sydney)
Ceilidh at Gaelic College is not to be missed.

It you are thinking about Nova Scotia south shore Lunenberg and the Folk Harbor Festival (August) is wonderful. Mahone Bay and Peggy's Cove are worth seeing.
We stayed at Graves Island Provencial Park (no electric or sewer) but wonderful sites on a grassy island.

Cape Breton National Park - Broad Cove (35479 Cabot Trail, Ingonish Beach, Nova Scotia B0C 1L0, 902- 224-2306)

Great place to be while exploring Cabot Trail via toad. Good hiking trails nearby as well. The road up had a couple of hairpin curves but doable.
Most people stay on the other side (Cheticamp) and is an easier road up in a big rig.
  • Cabot Trail KOA in N. Sydney NS. Well, a bit out of N. Sydney. Large sites, close to the things to see, and not your typical KOA. Except the price.
