Not a problem in the USA. Most if not all States require an active USA Insurance policy in the State where the vehicle is licensed. If you should drop or let your insurance expire, they deactivate the license tag. When you try to activate your tag, there are penalty fees added. AND the fee is added again and again annually until brought current. A non-op can be provided but it has to be before you insurance expires or is dropped. Even then some states will still add fees. We keep insurance on all vehicles even if they are not driven. (One of our largest retirement expenses)
