A few years ago, we had an accident near Puebla when we were side-swiped by a double remolque (transport truck with trailer). The truck kept going, and we pulled in to the next Pemex to assess the damage. Broken awning, broken window and some body damage to our 5th wheel. We called insurance who sent a guy who was there soon. He assessed the damage, called it in, and asked us to get it fixed there in Mexico. Fortunately we had the Premium Insurance - Qualitas from Lewis and Lewis. This plan included repairing damages at a shop of our choice, anywhere, including the US and Canada. I knew that the awning had to be replaced, and I knew we had only a few spare days to cross out of Mexico before our 180 day tourist visa expired. It took some debate over the phone with the head office, but they agreed, so with a Duck Tape patch up, we proceeded.
We found a place near San Antonio which had overnight camping on site and got the job done. To clarify our situation, I called Lewis and Lewis and spoke to Jim Lewis who confirmed our repair. He also confirmed that we would have to pay for the repair and would be reimbursed. The job was well done, and sure enough, a couple of months later we received a cheque in the mail from Qualitas to cover the bill.
I say thanks! to Lewis and Lewis for taking care of us in our need.
