Recently Removed Thread

My compliments to the Moderator for removing the Trump thread. It had no place here.

But I would like to make a suggestion: Since Mexico has become a political football of sorts it might be a good idea to have some well thought out guidelines for when politics and the Mexico forum actually do intersect and are germane to this forum.

An example: Lets say The president declares that people should not go to Mexico for vacations.

To me this then would directly affect us as RV'rs and should be allowed, with limits, as a point of discussion.

The thread that was just removed was a good example of one that definitely should not be allowed.

Lets take another example: If tariffs on Mexico result in highly increased costs for RV'ers this may be considered a reasonable topic.

My compliments to the moderators and I urge them to give some thought to this issue as I am sure it will rear it's ugly head again and we need a way to have this discussion civilly and with openness as events warrant.

Discussions having anything to do with politics are rarely civil and open.
  • Ah, too bad it got deleted. I found it very entertaining! I am surprised it ran as long as it did though.

I may be very opinionated my self, but I do read the comments on these forums very carefully. And I do value everyone's comments too, even when I don't agree. There is still something to be learned and remembered, (and sometimes just forgotten too) from every post.

Well, it was fun while it lasted! Maybe we all need to get past this hum-drum winter and get camping again! I know, I've been bored for weeks now! My camper is just SCREAMING!!! TAKE ME SOMEWHERE!
  • I agree that the moderator had to remove the thread because posters went political. Perhaps the title should have been different, but as a traveler I appreciated the current and background responses by those who are and have been in Mexico and information about treatment by local people. Sad that we can not get information without having to read political viewpoints on a forum that clearly states no politics. YIKES.
  • As a moderator of other boards, I take a slightly different approach.

The rules state no politics, right? So, regardless of whether I agree or not with the thread, I assume they'll be deleted anyway.

If nothing else, I can click "hide thread" and not have to worry about it.

Everyone's different, but there's plenty of politics and anger everywhere else. RV'ing to me isn't about politics.

I don't need to see it here.

As long as personal attacks are not taking place I agree with you completely. If there is a thread I don't like I just stay away from it. I enjoy following a thread with opposing passionate feelings.

    Yep...been here on RV.Net a long time and I can't remember ever using "notify moderator"....of course I don't have 50,000 posts either.

I think you will find that "he" is actually 6 people or more, each with their own sub-forums to watch over.

They probably ALL get the notifications, however, and I encourage you to not mis-use that button. Think about it for a minute before you make a report.
  • The moderator does a great job, HOWEVER......the reason there is a Notify Moderator clicky at the top right corner of EVERY posting is because he moderates all of the forums on these sites, and manages to have a life, too!

When you think a posting is inappropriate, notify him! I do it all the time.....
