- pryoclasticExplorerHaving grown up in Colorado, personally, I would head back to 25 and take it north to 66 and then go west.
Tool around to the things you want to see after you unhitch.
If you are going out through the panhandle the road is really rough north of Boise City till the state line. Take it slow.
Wish we were headed west instead of east. :( - BusskipperExplorer

Looking for route recommendation from Canon City CO to Estes Park CO. Will be towing a 33' fifth wheel with 1 ton dually. Would like to stay out of the cities as much as possible, but still have some decent roads to drive on. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Gary
There is a discussion on getting to Alameda in this same topic.
Just read through and follow the directions in reverse.
IMHO you want to get to Salida then Buena Vista/Leadville on to RT 91/I-70 exit at RT 119 - Peak to Peak onto RT 72 and finally RT 7 into Estes.
Lots to see and do along the way , often people will never make it to the final destination??
Best of Luck,
