Redding, CA to Reno, NV

I have a 40' MH pulling a Jeep and will be heading from Redding over to Reno the end of the week. It looks like there are three possible routes: CA 44 over to Susanville and US 395 down; CA 36 over to Susanville and US 395 down; or I-5 to Red Bluff then CA 99 down to Yuba City and CA 20 over to I-80.

I am really conflicted over which would be easiest - any advice from you pros in northern CA?

    What'cha gettin at That's OK?
  • Juniper Trees are a weed in Central Oregon .
Now towering Ponderosa Pines , thats a tree !
And Douglas Fir , and Hemlock , of course .
Juniper trees are hard to kill just like sagebrush .
  • Avoid the Yuba City route for awhile. Construction in Marysville will make things tight if you are uncomfortable in those situations.

Another route that has more Service options along the way is I5 to Sac and pick up 80 from there. A bit longer but faster roads overall and many more choices to pull a large rig over.

I always use the 44,36,395 going to Reno and points east.

Driving the rig in your signature??

Yes, that's my route whatever I'm driving, weather permitting.

All of the routes mentioned have their ups and downs, with twisty sections. Going to Reno is easier drive for a large rig (uphill) than returning on the downhill leg and keeping speed under control.
  • I want to thank all of you for your input. As usual, this site cannot be beat for info from fellow travelers. It looks like highways 44, 36, and 395 is the way we will go, especially since it is the shortest!!

Dope is the main weed grown in Oregon and dopes are probably responsible for most of the trash thrown into trees.........

Watch for the tree full of shoes off the Northbound lanes on 395 about 30 miles above Reno.
We are still trying to figure out what it means.
There was a bicycle hanging from the tree as of yesterday."

What a stupid thing to do. Sorry for the tree, and its just littering anyway. Seems like the CHP would stop, roll down their window and say 'hey moron'.............

Yes, 44,36, 395. Every time we go by that tree, I call it the Doyle nativity scene. Sad. That nice juniper tree will be dead fore long.

That tree has been there with the shoes for 15 to 20 years that I know of. I don't think it means anything just something someone started and others followed. In some areas "shoe trees" just seem to sprout and become a tradition!
