- navegatorExplorerLike it or not the cost of living has gone up about 15% more than last year, electricity and specially propane gas, some food items have also gone up a lot so do not expect prices to stay down, gasoline has also gone up, not much but enough so that taxis charge 5 pesos more per trip.
Those of you that will argue that the basic food items are government subsidized have not gone up as in tortillas, ETC are correct, onions have gone up, chiles and the price of lard, cooking oil, and if the RV park happens to have a commercial electric contract, that is a big item.
So bite the bullet, swing on the hammock and drink the Corona and have some roasted crickets instead of peanuts and engoy Mexico, it is still a lot cheaper than the USA, and you even get to speak a foreighn language!
navegator - mexicorussExplorer IIAt the end of the day the decisions the park owners make affects their business. Playa de Oro thought about raising, because of pressure from full timers in the park and residents in park models in the park they decided not to. Playa bonita could raise their prices and would still be full every year, I would expect that the prices will be going up next year although I don't speak for the Palacios, if they decide to raise, they can. Reef decided to raise and again they can. They are not in town, their spaces are huge and I know that Caravans already have booked into the future with them. All of the parks have something different to offer and I see things going very well here in Penasco. If you decide that you dont want to stay somewhere because of price, its your decision too. Right now in So Cal the rates for RV park space goes from 64 usd to 255 per night. Crazy I know but the parks are almost always full in season, I choose the sea of Cortes over the Pacific but again my choice. Come on down and enjoy this special place and have fun doing it.
- moishehExplorerChris: I did not check but commercial rates may have gone up. Regardless there is no logical reason for drastic rate hikes. RVing in Mexico will just keep dropping.
Moisheh - qtla9111NomadJust to clarify, the electricity may have increased in some áreas. For example, in my área the rates dropped considerably. However, usage limits remain the same here.
- moishehExplorer$30.00+- is a fair price. There is no real reason to raise prices. The cost of electricity went up last year. Water may have gone up a small amount. Wages are next to nothing. maintenance is minimal and taxes are a joke. Greed can be the only reason.

What were the rates in pesos?
I didn't ask and the prices I saw were all in dollars.
We stopped at Playa del Oro today, $27/189/750 Beach & $22/ 132/ 498 interior. They tried to raise the rates but so many fled they reduced them.
Playa Bonita, $29/ 203 week/ 786 month Beach & $24/ 144 week/ 536 month Interior. - moishehExplorerHere is how a Mexican businessman thinks: If you have an hotel or say an RV park and sales are down you increase the rates. Then you lose more business so just increase rates again. eventually you lose your clientele and the business goes under. Hypoxia: What were the rates in pesos?
Moisheh - Talleyho69ModeratorWe were so shocked at the prices at La Jaiba in Mazatlan (650p per night) that we won't be stopping there on our way back north.

Sadly from Rocky Point on to the West and down South to San Felipe and Gonzaga Bay the rates have gone thu the roof. Gonzaga Bay hotel room rates have doubled for a nothing room with only a few hours of AC a day (power is provide on a generator). Camping on the beach rates have also doubled (no hookups). Prices have been greatly influenced by Mexico Lite Rvers from California & Phoenix. The prices are cheaper than what they pay in CA & Phoenix so they pay, pay, PAY. Law of supply and demand, if people would stop going/paying then the price would come down. Operating cost have not increased enough to justify the huge rate increases, just a chance to make more dollars. On Edit, guess I should add Tucson Mexico Lite Rvers.

So are you saying we should never go there in the future, even if the prices drop? And if they do drop, and we resume going there, won't they just go up again? I have always found Rocky Point and San Carlos to be extremely good values. If you think $40 Oceanside sites are overpriced you must be living in another era.
RichH - daveB110ExplorerIn the past rates would go up in the Mexican RV parks. As seasons went by the traffic to the parks would dwindle, year by year. Each year, to keep their income steady, their prices would go up, never back down. Eventually some parks got sold for condos. We saw this farther to the south in Mexico. It chases Canadian RVers away, too, when the parks charge in American dollars. It has been said you can force them to take pesos, but when the owner converts USD to pesos, that's still more to pay when conversions favour USD, at times @ 19 pesos to 12 or 13 for CAD. We were okay at the Reef a few years back, camped on the sand, and could use much of the infrastructure of the Campground, for $5 a day. Enjoyed it, in fact.
