By the way, you read my mind, I have already spoken with one of two US senators from my state this past Friday, primarily regarding his new proposed national health insurance plan he and another senator are sponsoring in Congress and mentioned our problem here, and he has already heard about this problem from another constituent in this state; the only thing I could add was that he should look at this forum and see how hard you and others are working to solve this problem. In addition, unless you are spending some time in the no TIP zone, you ain't going anywhere but US soil.

You are going in to a Mexican site and some times that can be a problem.

All vehicles with an open bed in Mexico are cargo carrying trucks for tax purposes, The ford F=150 in Mexico is not designated as an F-150 it is called a LOBO, that way they skirt the tax man.

So the small VW pick up truck how much cargo in weight do you think that it can carry?

The VW truck probably does not weigh more than 3600 pounds, and it is a CARGO CARRING TRUCK! it is used for commerce in Mexico, at a certain point they see a truck wit an axle in the back with four tires, that rings a big bell and all hell brakes loose in their heads, caching, caching, impuesto (tax).

Why don't they let it in, the paperwork for importing the cargo, the camper shell will be horrendous, it is not a MOTORHOME but cargo, it probably will take them a couple of days to figure out how much importation fees to charge plus you will need a broker to do the papeleo, am I of the beaten path NO not at all been there done that, in the late 60s The University of the Americas in Cholula, Puebla purchased a language lab form Germany, the equipment sat in the port of Veracruz for more than one year, all because one misspelled word in a 76 page document! I had to wait more than a year to install it.

The problem is not the weight but the pick up trucks!

Charleston: I have seen a lot of gibberish in this forum over the years. Your post wins the prize. For starters when you stop at what we call "km21" you are not in the USA. You are at least 10 miles into Mexico. The US has no jurisdiction and if you went back to the US border the guys would just laugh at you. Why don't you try contacting your congressman and ask him for help. This is a Mexico problem and if there is a solution it will come from Mexico. Give it a rest!

I am well aware that pickup trucks are considered cargo carrying trucks - the question has to do with the definition of the term they use - "capacidad de carga" - and what is meant by that term in Mexico. The guys at the border say it is GVWR - but the words would translate to CCC - which would be added to GVW to get GVWR - it seems they are misinterpreting the rules -
