Reno NV to Coos Bay OR

395/44/89 diagonally up to Shasta is direct without major grades. It mostly stays in the 5000/4000 ft level, same as Reno.

I5 across the OR board does have one modest pass. My only complaint was that I felt like I was play hop-scotch with all the trucks.

OR42 is one of the lower roads across the coastal mountains, and is the most direct route from the central corridor to the south coast and Coos bay.

I think all the other suggestions will be longer and involve more grades. Crater Lake is a mountain top.

US97 from Weed north is relatively flat, staying at the 4000 level past Bend. From there to the Cascade passes the climb is minor (especially OR58), but grades down to near sea level are long.

Another option is to cross the Sierras on I80 or CA20, and then 20 across the coast range to US101. Then its redwoods and coast all the way north.

I have an allergic reaction every time I I get on a freeway so this is the route I would take. The only major grade is on OR 58 Willamette Pass about 6 miles 6%, well marked. Several 45 mph corners.

As Collier Campground is closed as noted, museum is limited. It is a shame as they had great logging displays.

Crater Lake NP for sure. You can drive around the lake or take a bus tour which isn't too bad. I have taken my 35' MH around, road is narrow with rough spots. Diamond Lake is fairly close to the north entrance of the park and the mosquitos always enjoy fresh meat.

There is a casino near Chiloquin https://klamoyacasino.com/ I can't recall what the stay limit is maybe 3 days. Food is decent. Fuel next door at truck stop. Could day trip up to Crater Lake.

If you do decide to go toward Bend you can take US 20 west overs Santiam Pass, 5 miles 6% grade. At bottom of pass, (left turn) follow OR 126 west. DO NOT attempt OR 242 unless you take the toad. We spent a couple of quiet nights at an RV park south of Alturas, CA. near the 'town' of Likely. Don't remember the name but google it.
It had a golf course, a cafe, and super quiet country atmosphere.

Don't miss Crater Lake, if you've never seen it. Plan on plenty of time to drive the entire loop. Fascinating story. We stayed at Collier Memorial S.P. south of the lake. F-H, shade, decent sites.
