I don't know about the route map quest has come up with but I certainly would not go on to Wilkes-Barre. That would be way out of your way and a congested urban area.
If it were me, I would jump off I-81 North onto I-80 West. Take exit 236B onto Rt487 heading north through Benton on up to Rt118. Turn right and just a couple of miles turn left on Rt487 where it separates from Rt118.
You didn't say what your tow vehicle is. Be AWARE, once you leave Rt118, the last stretch on Rt487 is a very steep climb for about 2 miles.
Map quest may be trying to pick the shortest route, but it won't save you any time and put you on some pretty windy country roads.
