Road conditions Highway Amy 5 from Oregon to California

We are heading Washington Oregon to California Ridgecrest Highway 84 to 95 never been this way before Towing a vehicle behind RV leaving on 3/25 2017 is this a good way to go and how many passes do you have to travel through is there a chance of snow in the passes
  • The highway south from Pendleton is US 395. It is a fair road but not he best on either side of John Day, OR. It is very scenic for a slow trip. Could be hard on driver in places.
  • Comeing from Ferndale wa to Ridgecrest California just wanted to try a new way time is not to important go from down i5 to Portland in down the to The Dalles to Pendleton and go down from 84 to 95 to Ridgecrest California
  • If it were me, I would take I-5 south to Hwy 58 to US 97 south to Klamath Falls then OR 39/CA 129 to Susanville and then US 395 south to the Ridgecrest highway.

I think this route would be shorter than the I-84 route and less elevation to climb.
  • Not sure where your Ridgecrest is. Looked it up and the one I found is off US 395.
US 95 has some hills but I donot remember anything to be concerned.
What time of year are you planning this?
Right now, I would be watching the weather and run I-84 to US 93.
  • How's the road from 95 Idaho to Ridgecrest California is there any passes on the way there and does it look like I expect to be going through any snow
  • If you are talking I-84 east out of Portland, you will be going over the Blue Mtns. Pretty good pass east of Pendleton. Long steep climb. Then several smaller passes before reaching flat lands of Idaho. US 95 is relative level south.
