road grades yellowstone/jackson

I am hoping to hear from travelers that have been to both Yellowstone and the Black Hills so i can try to draw a comparison of the road grades. I just came back from the Black Hills and my gas powered f 350 super duty handled the 11000 lb 5th wheel pull to the Keystone/Rushmore area just fine. Was wondering if the road grades are comparable? Harder? Thanks
  • I drove through Yellowstone from West entrance and out the East pulling my car. There was a downgrade heading out and the road was a little tight in a couple spots, but no problems overall. No problems in the Black Hills either. I would love to do that trip again.
  • The approach to Yellowstone Park from the west, through West Yellowstone, is a fairly easy route, grade wise. Coming from the south on 20 or from the north on 287 or 191.
Also, coming north to Jackson from Alpine WY, via Idaho Falls ID or from 189 via I 80, is pretty easy, too. Inside the park, you won't find anything to worry about.
  • A bit harder and higher, but should be ok for your v10 (I hope you have the v10!?) You'll need to let her rev high, bring plenty of gas money, and don't agree to race anyone to the top, cuz you won't win. As you know, the v10 is quite capable.
  • Other than Mt Washburn there are few grades in Yellowstone. Very few more than 6% (interstate grade).
