Road trip to Alaska article in paper

Hi -- we're half preparing to possibly go to Alaska next summer or the summer after. Today's newspaper had this article LINK (when it asks you if you want to subscribe, just click on "not now").......My question to you is whether the article is an over-kill on the amount of extras this person packed. The extra hoses, filters, spare fuel pump, etc........... Please give me your opinion on the article!!!:D Thank you!!!!!

  • There's nothing wrong with carrying extra parts and being prepared.

But, I think extra leaf springs is definitely overkill.
  • He's either very paranoid or is driving and pulling "beaters". I don't know when the last time I replaced a fuel pump was, but it was several decades, and if you break a leaf spring (or 2!), you need to SLOW DOWN! and/or get a trailer built to carry the weight you have on it.
  • Sounds like a well prepared person. I carry extra hoses and filters while I travel the U.S.

In the middle of no where you need to be prepared. No cell phones not stores to buy anything.
