Roads I love

Ken, we were shocked by the wonderful mountains in northeastern Nevada -- we will be going back as soon as we can.

So how did you figure this out? Have you been there before?

I was stopped from getting all the way up the canyon by deep snow in June of 1984 or 1985. A few years ago, we tried to go back and again the snow was too deep in June.

Most people don't know that these little hidden gems exist in northeastern Nevada. I though ppine might get this one, as it's in his neck of the woods.

I threw the June thing in there kind of as a ringer. Actually I've only been stopped by snow in mid to late June twice in the last 30 years.

BTW, there is a NFS CG with 41 sites in it up ahead.

Pretty road. Snow in June? How about Ten sleep Canyon, WY. We got snowed on there during our very first trip west.

In a different vein, we were coming back over the Pass late last summer and saw our local unicyclist riding DOWN the east side of the pass. He was about five miles above Twin Lakes. The climb up is impressive enough, but on the way down, one can't coast on a unicycle, but must peddle the whole way down. There is a brake lever under the seat to control ones speed.

This guy has long flowing white hair and is in his 60's. I've seen him on McClure Pass (8755' and 8%) before, but going over Independence Pass means climbing to 12095' on only a 6% grade. We've seen this same guy riding down moguls on a powder day at Aspen Highlands. Way crazy.
