460 is a nice drive, and a stop in Appomattox is one you may find interesting. Route I would try, and especially if weekday travel is involved would be
460 to I-85 North, to,
I-95 south (only a couple of miles)
I-95 south only a couple of miles to a LEFT exit onto I-295 north
I 295 to I-64 east.
This way you miss all of the high congestion traffic areas around Richmond. and no tolls.
One stop you may want to consider is there in Petersburg. The Petersburg National Battlefield is part of the National Park system (nat park passes are accepted) And has some interesting walks and exhibits.
