We love Mexico, used to drive down and stay at the beaches down in Baja - it's only 25 miles from my house to the border! My Spanish isn't bad, but I had a house in Peru (Calle Lince) for a time during the years of the Sendero Luminoso. Sadly, we stopped going to Mexico about ten years ago. Our pre-run friends lost hundreds of thousands of gear to bandits and gave up racing, they were lucky to get home with their lives. My daughter's teenage friend wasn't so lucky, she went across with her friends and was never seen alive again. 70,000 dead since 2006 (they don't count minors) to the narcotrafficante wars, including many innocents. Ask yourself, do you feel lucky? If you lived as close to the border as we do, you'd understand why so few go across anymore. Good luck to you and your group, y via con Dios!
