Avion67. My take on rocky pte... This January will be our 10th year . We go and stay at least a full month. Cheaper by the month. You can pick up Mexican insurance from multiple places with multinprices. The town of Aho AZ has a few places. What we experienced (yours may differ) last February was US homeland security stopped us on the US side and asked us about guns. No biggy. Mexican border patrol gave us an agriculture inspection with a lot of warnings (1st time ever)
No big deal . It was a random stop. Sometimes we get stopped at the border some times we don't. If you think about it try waiting at the border for just bit and see if you can follow some other Rv' to rocky pt cause there's a good chance that's where they might be heading. Take your time going thru Sonoita. Mexican border town. It gets a little busy when you pass the school. We usually drive thru Sonoita going on December 18 street. Shortcut but bumpy . 64 miles later you should reach PP. the Mexican marines had a checkpoint there and we're stopping and inspecting everyone . I believe that's a good thing. Practice your spanish on them cause their English is not so good. Then watch for the turn off for Sandy beach resorts, cholla bay etc, Its a traffic circle. It's a new road and it saves you having to drive through town . Unless you chose to stay at the playa del oro then think about turning at the circle. You can easily see rocky pt from there so you aren't gonna get lost. It's an easy access to playa Bonita and the reef Rv parks. We stay at the reef. We visit friends at playa Bonita. Your choice. We have stayed at the reef with and without reservations. NEXT.....park , set up, eat shrimp and Mexican food. Talk with the Mexican folks. They're fairly friendly. Vendors, fishing excursions , 4 wheel rentals etc
Rocky pt now has a SAMs club and Walmart , so you'll feel right at home. They'll take dollars but its smarter to covert to pesos. We us bank of America. They have an affiliate, Santandor in rocky pt.. We use our debit card for pesos with no problems or fees .
Go play tourist, obey the traffic laws, remember, it's Mexico not the US. Have fun. We do.
