Rough bridge on 95, southern VA

Just filed a request with Virginia DOT to do something with the bridge on 95 northbound, I think around Skippers. Bounced my trailer so bad, it tipped the table over. Concrete surface is mounded between the expansion joints and really causes the trailer to bounce, almost had the wheels off the road at one point.

Couldn't remember the mile marker but the bridge sits in a dip and there's an exit just past the bridge. Be interesting so see if anything gets done. Did get a response acknowledging the submission.

  • Before a friend retired from VDOT, he told me that they could create standing water on a hill without trying. :)
  • I know exactly which bridge you are talking about. Towing across it really makes you notice the bumps.

You're right, bukhrn, it's well below Emporia and it is the northbound side. It will be interesting to see what response if any I get from the DOT. See the new paving going down on 95 through Richmond now, and that was sorely needed.

We hit it in the sports car Thanksgiving day and it was a good hundred yards before the car stopped bouncing.

If you get a favorable answer, you'll be doing better than us Virginians get. ;)

That is one,(of many in the area) but the one OP is talking about is down below Emporia.
  • I have these points set in my GPS to warn me a bit in advance of this rough bridge. It can really get my Class B bucking crazily even with new shocks. I slow down a LOT which keeps the bucking within reason. Can really surprise you the first time. You can bypass on Route 301 past the Yogi Bear campground at Emporia (run 301 between I95 Exits 11 and 17 I believe).

  • That's the one! Wish there was a way around that thing. Doesn't make a difference which lane you use either.
  • Might be same place that throws truck into severe bucking ,I hit it last two times on 95.I was thinking this is going to cause an accident.
