Route 54 New Mexico

Will soon be leaving on a trip East on I-40. We are driving a 35ft Class A with a Chevy Tracker 2dr. toad. The Good Sam trip planner has routed us from Alamogordo to Santa Rosa New Mexico via route 54. Never been down this highway and need info from those that have. Is phone signal available, any life along this stretch, road conditions, Etc. Any info would be appreciated. Thank You. :h
  • Thanks for your reply that is just the info I was looking for. Tally ho :)
  • I have been back and forth on 54 through NM many, many times. Good road. Cell signal is hit and miss but you can get it most of the time. There isn't much on that stretch of 54, some small towns and a lot of Antelope. A couple of hours driving and it will be in your rearview mirror, a very easy drive.
  • Are you sure you are not talking about US-54 from Alamogordo through Vaughn to Santa Rosa? When we drove that route a couple of years ago, it was a pretty good 2 lane road.

South of I- 40, US-84 goes through Fort Sumner to Lubbock, TX it does not go near Alamogordo. That said, it was also a good road the last time we drove it in 2012.
