Winslow, AZ has great scenic view of Girl in Flat bed Ford from Eagles song.
Oatman, AZ has wild donkeys wandering main stree (Route 66. Hard to get in following Route ^^ over Seligman Pass. Warning signs about travel. We went over with MH and toad. Great views. Should have little problems if you take it easy.

Rte 66 also runs through downtown Albuquerque as well.
Some pretty great sights there too!

What cities along route 66 are still active and retain the old 66 atmosphere? Williams, AZ comes to mind. Mostly original buildings still in business, neon signs, mom and pop small stores, restaurants etc. Where else?

Do your home work! Some portions are not RV friendly! Narrow twisty and steep!

Rode Rt. 66 from Needles to Santa Fe in 2013. It's well worth it before it rusts away. The old highway is pretty much a frontage road for I-40. But if you take every exit through the towns, they all hook back up on the I and allow you to slow down and actually see the once well used shops and attractions, many boarded up and closed, frozen in time. There is plenty of local flavor to enjoy. These have already been mentioned.

I have been on maney parts of it. It no longer is a complete route. I-40 goes alongside it over it for most of the way. When visiting the Petrified forest National Park we stayed at Sun Valley RV Resort. It is just off I-40 and on a bit of old Rt66.

Do not be in a hurry if you are you can miss a lot.
If you have to go back to re-look at something, take the time.
It will be an amazing excursion.

If travelling through Winslow, AZ, be sure to stop at La Posada Hotel, if only just to look around. Link here This was originally a hotel built by the Santa Fe railroad for their passengers. It was closed and then served as offices for the railroad until an enterprising family bought it and restored it. Very peaceful, lots of artwork, a fantastic high class restaurant. You might even want to abandon your RV for one night and spend a night in one of the rooms.

Travelling Rte. 66 is definitely worth it, although sometimes a somewhat melancholy experience. There are many great things to see, but on the other hand it is sad to see so many abandoned small diners, hotels, roadside attractions, etc. that were once flourishing but went under after the interstates came through. It is certainly interesting to see these, but sometimes sad too.

Yes, it is worthy! So much to see and do. Highlights for us included Kingman, AZ – the drive to Oatman, AZ is incredibly beautiful – museums in Kingman very inexpensive and interesting! Petrified Forest National Park. Cadillac Ranch – bring your can of spray paint! Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, IL and Lincoln’s home very nicely done and RV friendly. We thought we had no interest until we walked inside of the Devil's Rope Museum - Barbed Wire Museum in McLean, TX – a Route 66 ghost town - and wound up staying a couple of hours. Really - the list goes on and on… would definitely say something for everyone! And many memories of days gone by!
