- accsysExplorerThat's about a 4,000 ft climb between Alamogordo and Cloudcroft. You don't say what you are driving. If a car, no sweat, if a small pickup pulling a large trailer, not so good. Lots of slow curves. Got to have power to make the climb West to East, great brakes to make the descent east to West.
- dcasonExplorerClass c 24 feet towing a jeep...we have a transmission cooler....
Perhaps not a wise choice?
donna - dcasonExplorerWe are heading to Guadalupe National Park so I can just reroute us through outer loop of El paso....
- Captain_HappyExplorerJust a heads up, if your going from El Paso to Guadalupe Nat Park your going to encounter some more steep miles going north, but there not really that long. Nothing like going up driving up to Cloudcroft.
- dcasonExplorerOkay, thanks so much. We have done some steep (not like we haven't) but...don't need to push it either.
Good info.
Donna - Second_ChanceExplorer IIIt's a little farther but a much easier drive to take 70 past Ruidoso, 380 to Roswell and then 285 down to Artesia. That's what I'd do with my fiver. When you leave Artesia, try to avoid 285 out of Carlsbad to Pecos - it's miserable!
