Route A-24 in New Mexico to Sugarite Canyon State Park

Google Maps shows to turn off US 87 W. onto State A-24. Seems to be a distance of 1.7 miles and looks like gravel surface. Towing a 34' fifth-wheel. We are very familiar with Raton and Raton Pass but have never stayed at Sugarite Canyon. Would like comments about advisability of travel on this road: A-24.

    Thanks, Heisenberg, that confirms what I was thinking.

    We usually stay at Raton Pass RV (formerly Cedar Rail), and have done so many times, but always thought about Sugarite. This trip is the time. We have reservations--just for an overnight, we are on the way to Banff, Canada.

    May be our last long trip as I will be 85 in October. Let's just say, "we're HOPING to be on the way to Banff in July!"

    Since you are not getting any help I would advise against it. I skipped it and went to town and took 72 off of I27. In my case there had been rain and my experience in Raton in my Tracker and Jeep has been rough gravel roads. Because of its short length it probably gets a lot of traffic. The chance there has been recent maintenance is not worth saving 10 minutes of a long trip. It has been 2 years since I stayed at Sugarite and it is a jewel.
