  • We camped at Headwaters CG at Teton lodge near the south entrance. One night we went to the Cody Rodeo and back. 3 hr trip each direction.

Park is open 24/7. Nobody at the gate at that time of night.

Only two places where there is a very tight turn in the road and you can see it on the maps.

Nearly had a collision with 2 elk at 1213 AM on our return trip.

Road from south entrance for several miles is all uphill.
  • Yep, just did exactly that a couple weeks ago. They're all saying the same thing, and indeed is really the only route other than going WAY out of the way.

BTW, Cody is a really cool little town!!

  • Just to add unnecessary detail to the already correct answers above.... Head west out of Cody through the East entrance station of Yellowstone NP to Fishing Bridge. Turn Left at the junction and drive south along Yellowstone Lake to the junction with the South entrance road and turn left again. Continue on the South entrance road through the South entrance station and then on the John D. Rockefeller Memorial Highway through the north entrance to Grand Teton NP. When you pass Jackson Lake with the beautiful Teton range on your right you have arrived!!

True, and BarryG20 hit it right on the nail.

  • Seems like the route through Thermopolis and Riverton is a much longer drive. Some USFS CGs on that route however.
  • I personally would go right through the park and out the south entrance on 191.
