You probably have good reason to follow the route you have noted, and good reason not to follow the route which I would prefer, so I only share this as an alternative.
US 191 to Monticello to take US 491 then US 160 to Durango and on to Pagosa Springs. From Pagosa Springs US 84 to Santa Fe and I-25 to Albuquerque.
The drive from Pagosa Springs to Chama, NM is one of our favorites and Santa Fe is one of our favorite places of all.
On this route you have an embarrassment of riches: Mesa Verde, Durango and the Narrow gauge railway, Pagosa Springs, Chama, and Santa Fe.
As I recognized in the beginning, you may have reason not to follow this route, but it just happens to be one of our favorites in our RV travels of many years.
