US90 from New Orleans going west for the first 20 miles or so is 2 lane then becomes 4 lane until Lafayette with portions of it being interstate quality.
Between New Iberia and Lafayette it is rough and is subject to urban rush hour congestion. West of Lafayette US90 parallels I-10 is 2 lane and goes thru numerous towns until it merges with I-10 in Lake Charles. I-10 is rough in the Sulphur area and there is construction at Orange. Note that US90 does not go to Alexandria - that is 90 miles north of Lafayette on I-49.
