Route question, Alturas Ca to Bend Or
Just curious as to routing... When we left The Likely Place this morning we just automatically set out Garmin to Bend and took our normal route through K. Falls and 97... Our Garmin kept wanting to ...

The Summer Lake Hot Springs resort is a nice stop. The hot springs pool is inside a barn like building. So you can pretend to be a cowboy soaking after a long hot day in the saddle.
I didn't notice anything particularly rough about the road surface 9 years ago. But, I bypassed a good chunk of it by driving up on to the rim above the lake. :) I even picked up a broken chainsaw file in a rear tire while looking for the Hole in Ground volcanic feature.
This area is best done in a vehicle that lets you explore, and not just dash from one city to the next on the smoothest straightest road.
