Route to Olympic peninsula

We will be camping north of Seattle this summer before heading to Olympic NP. Would like to camp in Sequim or Port Angeles while visiting the park. Would like suggestions on best route from Mount Vernon (north of Seattle) to the Sequim/Port Angeles area. Pulling a 31' 5er w/20015 GMC 2500. Thank you for your suggestions.

Ah, no. There is SR-16 from Tacoma, across the Narrows Bridge (recall Galloping Gerty, the old Narrows Bridge which blew down in a storm) then to Bremerton and up across the Hood Canal Bridge (which also is a replacement bridge for one that sank)
  • Drive right around the bend and up the 101. Nice road. We really enjoyed Rest-A-While RV park on the 101, just south of Port Angeles and Squim. It is not much to look at, more of a paved full hookup, but the view, with your front window up against the Hood River Canal is magnificent. Happy Trails.
  • Ferry, as suggested, is certainly an option...but, be prepared for possibly a long wait at the ferry dock....and with a 31 ft. trailer, certainly be prepared for it to be expensive .

Either way, have a good trip

  • Best way from Mt Vernon is WA 20 across to Whidbey Island and take the ferry to Port Townsend.
  • Whichever way you go a ferry will be involved...unless you're into a very long drive.
