Route up to Big Bear CA

We are thinking of going camping up in Big Bear Lake this summer, and I am looking for the best route for pulling a TT. I was thinking going up the 38 from Redlands because I know the 330 is steep and then really tight though Arrow bear. Any thoughts or suggestions?

  • I've towed boats up to Big Bear Lake many, many times in the last 30 years. Most recent was a 21' Sea Ray pulled by a Grand Cherokee. The boat weighted 4700 lbs. I much preferred 330. Either way, be ready to downshift going up & coming down. Use the pull-outs and passing lanes to let faster traffic by you.
  • I think the 38 is a much nicer drive even in the car. little wider not as steep and you can actually enjoy the view on the way there.
  • Absolutely take the 38. And it's got a lot of nice scenery too. The other routes are much harder on your rig.
