- RoadpilotExplorerWe do it in a 45' MH towing. A little construction just outside of Charleston, but that's it.
- MerrykaliaExplorerWhen you first leave Charleston, you will hit lots of traffic lights, but once you are outside Charleston, it's a good road. We travel it between Charleston and Beaufort when we are going to Hunting Island.
If you happen to hit lots of traffic on I-95, Rt 15 runs parallel to it down through a lot of SC. - K_CharlesExplorerI have taken 17 from Savannah to Virginia Beach a few times towing 34' and like it enough that I will do it again.
- artguysExplorerAS the residents like to call themselves, lowlanders, everything is flat. Was some bridge work a few years ago...other than that a mixture of divided and 2 lane.
- Jim_ShoeExplorerI took 17 South from Mt. Pleasant,SC to Myrtle Beach, mostly because I wanted to drive thru the Great Dismal Swamp. Its dismal, all right. But not as dismal as driving thru Charleston during morning rush hour.

I think that your may have your swamps mixed up. Or..I miss read your post. The Great Dismal Swamp is in NC and VA. - Fish__n___GritsExplorerWe drive US17 south from Chas to I-95 often, with a 5th wheel or truck camper. There is construction from Jacksonboro to Garden's Corner. Average speed will be 50-60. Much more pleasant than driving I-95!
- Jim_ShoeExplorerrv,
You didn't misread it, I miswrote it. I was starting from Colonial Williamsburg and wanted to avoid I-95 as long as I could. - hellbird503ExplorerThank you everyone for your input. Rt 17 it is. Dave
