Just don't try to drive up Mt. Washington. In ANYTHING! Take the train! It looks good at the top, and at the bottom. But the inbetweens!!! Especially with the buses on it!
Driving a car up to the summit of Mt. Washington via the Auto Road is a piece of cake (albeit exciting) as long as the altitude and a narrow two-lane road doesn't cause a concern for you.
The buses mentioned above are actually passenger vans called Stage Coaches that use the road.
Done that road several times with no problems. The only thing to watch out for are your brakes and use your lower gears. On the descent, do not overheat your brakes! There are several SMALL pullouts where you can rest and cool brakes and, if you're in a heavy SUV, etc., do not skip any of those pullouts unless you use a heavy low gear.
FYI..the ascent has some sheer drop offs, mostly on the passenger side. On descent, there is mostly mountain up to the roadbed on the passenger side (there ain't any breakdown lane on that road!).
