RT 50 across West Virginia and Ohio?

Planning a trip out to Cincinnati, coming through Baltimore. Looking at RT 50 instead of taking 70 all the way up and over. Not in any hurry and we have done the 70 trip many times, so a change of scenery too.

Any reason this route would be a bad choice towing the camper?

Any construction through there?

50 is a great motorcycle road thru WV and Ohio. Towing a camper might be fun but you won't make very good time. If you are not in a hurry I would say go for it. You will see more of this great country then driving the interstate.

We are camp host at Paint Creek State Park in Ohio, just off 50 outside of Bainbridge. If you would like to stay at one of the best state parks in the US, stop and pay us a visit. We are about 60 miles from Cincy.

I was stationed at Dover AFB for many years. Bring some crab with you. LOL

I live in Maryland just over the DE line. Had some really good crabs this past weekend.
  • Thanks to all, heading out later this week.

My Sister works at DAFB, we are about 30 minutes north. Too many big storms out here to go out on the Bay and catch crabs lately!
    Thanks for the advise:)
  • Here's a good Wikipedia article about the route. Like many of the original coast to coast roads, its been replaced by sections of Interstates that just used the original road as a road bed for the expressway when passing thru big cities. The route through Ohio is still a nice drive, but mostly used by local traffic. Stop for gas when you see a station and watch for low overpasses. Don't expect to find many CGs along the way.
