Maryhill on the Washington side of the US97 and I84 junction is about half way.
There are other choices on I84 as you continue west into the Gorge.
US97 doesn't have much until you get to the Madras area. Cove Pallisades is a nice state park, though access requires crossing a canyon. During the eclipse, the area between Madras and Redmond was packed with campers.
