RV sites in New Orleans area?

We will be passing through the New Orleans area in early June with our travel trailer and would like some advice on where to stay for a couple of days. Maybe something within walking distance but that may not be a good idea especially after dark. We checked out some RV sites on-line and the reviews were not great. Any suggestion?
  • Pontchartrain Landing was very nice. Stayed there in March. The shuttle is great if the times work for you. If you have to take a cab then you might as well pay more money and stay at French Quarter RV Park.
  • We used Jude Travel Park. The owners were VERY accommodating - shuttled us right into the French Quarter - gave us great advise on what to see and how to stay safe. Bathhouse was very clean and secure. Wouyld certainly stay there again! ST
  • We splurged and have reservations at French Quarter RV Park for 1 night in early June. We will just be passing through on our way to Florida. We aren't towing so wanted to stay near French Quarter. It is very expensive. I never thought I would pay that! All reviewers say it is safe to walk to FQ in daytime and just short cab ride $5-6 @ night.
  • We use the KOA West for our annual stays there. It is exceptionally clean; about 25 minutes from the tourist area; they offer a daily shuttle; and the staff is about as accommodating as you'll find anywhere. Camp on!
  • French Quarter RV park is very expensive but closest to French Quarter.
Pontchartrain Landings is where we stayed. They have a shuttle to the French Quarter although it stops early so not a party bus.
We also stayed at Bayou Segnette State Park. We liked it but it's quite a drive to the French Quarter. Also I would approach it from the west. Directions are tricky.

    Hey diazr2-
Does the ferry run at night as well? Would safety be an issue?
    thanks-
Yes it does. I think the last trip out is about 10 not sure though. I know parking can be a *****. My first post was inaccurate. I stayed at Bayou Segnette State Park. We had no problem with safety. Everyone there just seems like they want to have a good time. Lots of party folks for sure. It's a great place to visit.

  • They have a lovely State Park right on the outskirts of the city. Its very nice place. I stayed there for a few days. The ferry is about 2 miles from there and it's free to ride into the French quarters nice place to visit. Bayou Segnette State Park
